Organic Farm Tour - Saturday, August 15 - 2:00-5:30 pm
AFI Flamer to Combat Weeds and Integrating Cattle to Improve Soil Health 

The purpose of this farm tour is to demonstrate how AFI flamer works on corn and soybean crops. Encourage farmers to evaluate cropping systems that integrate livestock and cover crops.  UNL Charles Shapiro, Emeritus Professor, Soil Scientist – Crop Nutrition will discuss the Nebraska Soil Health Task Force and the healthy soils initiative.  Read more:

Tour starts at 2:00 p.m. at Larry Stanislav's farm two miles north of Abie, Neb.  Stanislav will discuss his cultural practice managing weeds and reduce tillage with the use of an AFI flamer.  He will discuss how he is incorporating cover crops and livestock in his crop rotation and saving money on nitrogen and reducing soil erosion. 

At 3:30 pm participants will tour Randy Fendrich's organic farm three miles south/east of the Stanislav farm.  Fendrich will discuss his cultural practices and crop rotation using a 12-row flamer/cultivator and share his soil-health building program.  Fendrich will talk about his succession plan bringing his daughter into the farming operation and how he is mentoring others.
